About Us

Over the years we have erected 21 historical markers throughout the County in locations which are historically significant.

  • We have produced and sold over 1,200 Jackson County history books.
  • We helped produce the 10,000 Marianna and Greenwood Sidewalk Tour pamphlets.
  • We continue to do historical tours of the historical sites in Marianna and Jackson County for different organizations.
  • We have held several Tour of Homes where Marianna and Jackson County homes are opened to the public and we anticipated our continued efforts in that area.
  • The Davis-West House, our own 1840’s house, is open to the public for tours by appointment, and we continue to use it to educate school children and adults.
  • We helped with the designation of the Marianna Historical District and are now in the process of becoming very active in promoting this area as a tourist attraction as well as promoting its enormous value as an area of renovation for fine living.
  • We have developed the script for a very informative and entertaining video showing the Satsuma Festival held in 1927 and 1928.  We have made this historical presentation to many interested groups.
  • We continue to support and assist families who are attempting to place their property on the National Register of Historical Places.
  • We have assisted in erecting 32 Marianna Main Street historical marker signs in the yards of historically significant homes and will continue to place these where needed.
  • We have acquired historical documents from the Marianna Post Office which will be archived and held for future generations.
  • We have secured Marianna Post Office Federal Courtroom furnishings and paneling for inclusion on the proposed County Administration Building.
  • We originated the idea to get Marianna Historical District signs erected on I-10 to encourage tourist to come into Marianna to enjoy our historical sites.  The signs were erected in 2007.  We thank you for your support of this project.

In addition to the above endeavors, we are the resource organization for people doing genealogy studies in the Marianna/Jackson County area.  We answer many questions and direct numerous questions about the rich heritage of our area each year.

We also were given numerous items by the Dozier People, some of which have historical value to the community.  Among the special items were all of the Plywood Characters from the Memorable Boys’ School Christmas Display.  These have been passed on to the Marianna Main Street to be used throughout the city.

Our Organization stands ready to assist the Tourist Development Council as they promote Tourism, Teller of our Historical Treasures in Jackson County.
