As Chipola College prepares to mark its 60th anniversary in 2007, students at this traditional community college have more opportunities than ever before.

Chipola’s most popular program continues to be the Associate in Arts degree which provides the first two years of college for students planning to transfer to a university at the junior level.

Chipola also awards Bachelor’s Degrees in Secondary Education with majors in Mathematics and Science, and Middle Grades Mathematics and Middle Grades Science. The Foundation’s Beall Endowment and SUCCEED Florida! provide free tuition for qualified students.

College officials have made application to begin offering a new Bachelor’s of Applied Science (BAS) in Management as early as August of 2007.

Chipola also offers several Associate in Science (AS) programs, as well as a number of Workforce programs which provide training for high wage jobs.

Workforce programs include: Welding, Automotive Technology, Corrections, Computer Systems Technology, Electronics Technology, Cosmetology, Law Enforcement and Telecommunications.

Associate in Science programs include: Business Administration and Management, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Information Administration, Criminal Justice Technology, Culinary Management, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education, Electronic Engineering, Fire Science, Network Administration, Recreation Technology and Telecommunications Technology.

Associate in Applied Science programs in Electronic Engineering Technology and Telecommunications Engineering Technology also are available. College credit certificates are provided in Dental Assisting, Child Development Early Intervention, Office Support, Office Specialist and Office Management.

The Health Science Division offers training programs for a number of health-related careers. The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is a 1+1 LPN to RN curriculum. Students are eligible to take the LPN exam after the first year, and the RN exam after the second. Application deadline for the next class is Sept. 15. The LPN to RN program accepts current LPN’s into the third semester of the ADN program. Deadline is April 15, 2007. The next EMT Emergency Medical Technician class begins in November of 2006. The next Paramedic program begins in Fall 2007. The college also offers several Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes throughout the year.

Continuing Education department offers courses for professional development, certification and lifelong learning in a variety of areas. Courses range from Child Care certification to Real Estate to Cake Decorating. Online courses and custom workshops also are available.

Chipola’s open-door policy allows any student with a high school diploma to enroll after completing an application and providing high school or college transcripts.
