Education - Primary through Secondary
There are more than 20 schools in Jackson County, 18 of which are operated by the Jackson County School Board. Quality educational services are provided to more than 7,700 students. Committed teachers, support staff and administrators conduct classes ranging from pre- Kindergarten through twelfth grade, plus extensive adult education and adult-handicapped programs. Each of the Jackson County K-12 schools are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The majority of Jackson County School District’s graduates continue their education by attending community colleges, universities or technical schools.
School Board meetings are typically scheduled on the third Tuesday of each month in the Board Room at the School Board Office. The public is invited to attend. Several of Jackson County’s teachers have received their National Board Certification. Four schools are currently designated as “A” schools, and three of them have consistently maintained that status during the past three years. The community plays an active role in supporting Jackson County’s schools, which utilize volunteering and mentoring programs. The schools have received numerous Gold and Silver School awards for outstanding volunteer support.
There are a large variety of technical and vocational classes offered to middle and high school students. Students involved in Vocational Student Organizations frequently earn the right to represent their schools and Jackson County on state and national levels. The Jackson County School District boasts one of the best student/guidance counselor ratios in the state of Florida. Jackson County’s sports programs have a great deal of tradition and heritage, including numerous state championships, while opportunities for involvement in music and the arts are also available to most Jackson County students.

Victory Christian Academy, located at 2271 River Road in Sneads A private school serving K-12 grade, the school employs 10 full-time staffers, eight of them teachers. Its academic program features the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum (ACE) which is individualized to suit each student. The school has a before-school care program. Dayspring Christian Academy, located at 4792 Hallelujah Drive in Marianna A private interdenominational school serving K-3 through eighth grade while maintaining a low student/teacher ratio, the school utilizes both Bob Jones and A Beka curricula. It provides teachers who are both degreed and licensed in Florida.
