JACKSON COUNTY AGRICULTURE CONFERENCE CENTER

2741 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, MARIANNA, FLORIDA

SPONSOR: Jackson Hospital

SPEAKER: Dr. Daniel Van Durme

Professor & Chair, Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health, FSU College of Medicine

May 9–15, 2010is National Hospital Week and Jackson Hospital is proud to sponsor a special First Friday Power Breakfast on May 7th from 7:00am – 8:45am at the Agricultural Conference Center on Penn Avenue featuring Dr. Daniel Van Durme.

Dr. Van Durme is Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health, one of five academic departments in the FSU College of Medicine.  The FSU College of Medicine, up until recently, was the first new medical school in the United States in 20 years. The FSU program makes rural health a priority area in the college's mission.

Jackson Hospital, Marianna, serves as a Rural Training Site for the Florida State University College of Medicine. In fact, Dr. Van Durme calls Jackson Hospital “the star of the FSU College of Medicine Rural Track Program.” The partnership between FSU College of Medicine and Jackson Hospital began in 2002. The Jackson Hospital Medical Staff currently hosts three 3rd year Medical students, one of whom is Marianna’s own Philip Burke.

FSU College of Medicine students participating in the Rural Track spend their entire 3rd year of Medical School in Marianna at Jackson Hospital in a clerkship capacity which offers training in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics. Dr. Steven Spence of Internal Medicine Associates serves as Site Director.

Come learn about the FSU College of Medicine and its focus on training the next generation of physicians who will serve the healthcare needs of those in rural Florida and how Jackson Hospital and the Jackson County community play a significant part shaping these Medical Students.
